This course concerns the periodization of the modern economic growth by the glasses of a special economic actor, the modern enterprise. The aim of the course is to give to the students both the theoretical and historical evolution perspective . As to the theory, the course presents several contributions to the theory of provate firm (mainly big business) , from Coase, Penrose, Chandler to Porter and La Porta et. al. and presents a review of the different forms of enterprises in the main varieties of capitalism: anglo saxon; continental; japanese. in the two centuries of the industrial capitalism. A special attention will be given to the forms of ownership and control in different institutional environments and to the size of firms: big business, small firms, network of firms of different size.
Finally the Italian case will be presented referring to size, ownership and control, management and regulation, industrial relations, finance, entrepreneurship.

Learning Objectives
The mission the course is to know the features of the non standard economics of enterprise and the role of business history to understand the origins and the historical path of the actual form of organization and management of the enterprises.
