The course is centred on the economic and institutional analysis of the firm. Main topics: general theory of the firm (basic), the economics of cooperative firms with special emphasis on worker and consumer cooperatives, the economics of the non-profit sector. The approach is that of political economy but the course also provides insights into the institutional aspects of these organizations and reviews empirical data on the cooperative and non-profit sectors.

KNOWLEDGE:
Elements of theory of the firm. The distinctive features of the third sector and its organizations. Institutional aspects of cooperative organizations in Italy. The economics of cooperatives: internal organization and working. Economic and institutional aspects of non-profit organizations.

Ability to read and interpret economic and legal texts on the enterprise, cooperative firms and non-profit institutions. Ability to understand the cooperative phenomenon in its economic and institutional aspects.
