Metodologie e tecniche di misura e di interpretazione dei fatti di popolazione attraverso dati aggregati
Methods and techniques of measurement and interpretation of the facts of the population through aggregated data
Learning Objectives
The course aims to introduce the basic concepts and provide tools for the study of population structure and demographic behavior. Concepts and measures are verified on real populations through appropriate examples to be conducted with the use of data obtained from official sources and the main survey. In particular, attention will be paid to the comparison of issues related to the demographic characteristics of developing and developed societies.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of mathematics and statistics.
Teaching Methods
Lessons face to face in the classroom through exposure of methods and case studies, with reference to countries in the developing world.
Further information
Given the past experiences, I underline the importance of the following behaviors:
1) examining carefully the Moodle Platform where are the slide of the Course;
2) reading the Appendix of the text written by Gustavo De Santis, where are important statistical and mathematical notes that are fundamental expecially for not students that cannot follow lessons;
3) Platform Moodle includes also files with exercises, that are in particular important for students that cannot follow lessons.
Type of Assessment
The examination consists of a written and an oral test. Both have the same weight on the final evaluation. In the written test, 5 exercises are included and every one has a score equal to 6.
