This course will include an intensive review of French grammar with exercises to be completed in class and at home. We will also address topics new to the B2 level. We will work on writing and oral communication skills in French, with particular attention given to using a formal register for professional contexts. Students will be expected to write argumentative essays on a regular basis organized around problems related to tourism and sustainability.

Attending Students:
60% Final thesis written at home. The topic must be related to sustainability in the tourism industry and must be approved by the professor beforehand. For 9 credits, the thesis must be 10 pages of text (not including images), 12 pt. Times New Roman, 1.5 interline spacing. The thesis should be written in formal, academic French.
30% Oral presentation. The student will present the content of the written thesis. For 9 credits, the presentation should last 20 minutes. It will be followed by a brief discussion guided by the student.
10% Classroom participation and work during semester.
Non-attending students:
Please contact the professor at least three weeks before the exam period. Non-attending students will sit a 1.5 hour written examination. There will be two questions related to tourism and sustainability, each worth 10 points. The reponses must be written in formal academic French. No resources (dictionary, conjugation charts, etc.) will be allowed during the examination. During the oral component (20 min.) the student will answer similar questions related to sustainable tourism. The oral component is worth 10 points. The student must first pass the written component in order to schedule the oral component.
