Course Content
The course aims to address the main concepts related to the organization design and the management of human resources in the hospitality and tourism sectors. Specific focus will be given to organizational design basics, organizational structures and organizational culture. In addition, students will be provided with an overview of main issues in Human Resource Management practices in the tourist sector.

Learning Objectives
The course aims to develop knowledge and competence for organizational analysis and design of companies operating in the tourism industry. Students will also acquire the core knowledge about human resource management with specific focus on the peculiarities of tourism sector.

- 3 open questions (open questions or exercises),
- 20 multiple-choice questions
- Participation to class activities based on two group assignments.
Duration: 2 hours
Score:
multiple-choice questions: correct answer 0,5 point; wrong answer penalty of 0,1 points; skipped or left blank answer does not involve any penalty.
open-ended questions: 7 points each at the maximum.
Participation to class activities these activities allows between 0 to 3 points increase in the final examination grade.
Participation to class activities (two group assignments) allows between 0 to 3 points increase in the final examination grade.
The final mark will be the result of the scores obtained from the open and the multiple-choice questions and the scores obtained from the two group assignments.

Course program
The course program covers two main areas. In the first part, devoted to the 'Organization Design in the Tourism Industry', the concepts of organizational dimensions of the tourist enterprise will be discussed, defining the peculiarities of these types of service companies describing the evolution of the theories underlying the discipline of the organization studies. The course will focus on aspects such structure design, managing environmental changes and organizational culture. In the second part of the course, dedicated 'The People Management in the Tourism Industry', the course will introduce the peculiarities of human resource management in the tourist sector by addressing human resource management and development activities, also referring to the specific features of international companies and event organizations.
