The purpose of this course is to give students legal instruments to understand the functioning of the international community in a legal perspective.

Learning Objectives
The purpose of this course is to give students legal instruments to understand the functioning of the international community in a legal perspective.
Prerequisites
Students who wish to attend the course of Human rights and armed conflicts and Diritto internazionale e sfide globali and sit the latter exams are strongly recommended to attend the course of International law during the first semester.
Teaching Methods
The course will be articulated in 48 hr lectures.

Type of Assessment
Written exams. Students should answer to three questions on different parts of the program.
Course program
The course is divided into two parts.
During the first part focus will be on the following topics:
- origins and the main current features of the international community;
- subjects of international law;
- sources of international law;
- relationship between international law and internal laws of States;
The second part will be devoted to the following topics:
- use of force
- mechanisms for peaceful settlement of disputes
- international responsibility of States.
