Course Content
This course is an introduction to the fundamental concepts of managerial accounting appropriate for all organizations. Managers make extensive use of accounting information in performing their tasks. This course provide students with the essential concepts and methods concerning managerial planning, control and decision-making.

Learning Objectives
Knowledge objectives of this course include the following:
• understanding the role and scope of financial and managerial accounting and the use of accounting information in the decision-making process of managers
• Interpreting and analyzing the absorption costing systems and the activity-based costing, being able to appreciate the difference between the two approaches
• Identifying and using appropriate financial information to make operational decisions
• understanding the role of budgeting in planning, control and decision making
• preparing an operating budget, identifying its major components and understanding the interrelationship among its various components
Constructing, analyzing and interpreting management control systems
• understanding the role and scope of financial and managerial accounting and the use of accounting information in the decision-making process of managers

Prerequisites
To attendee the course profitably, a basic knowledge of business administration and financial accounting is required. If the course is taken as part of a BSc degree in ECONOMIA AZIENDALE, the following courses should be passed before this course is attempted: [B018991] ECONO-MIA AZIENDALE and [B02837] CONTABILITÀ.
Teaching Methods
The course is based on lectures and tutorials.
Lectures systematically deal with concepts and analytical tools you are requested to use. Lec-tures aim at offering you essential basic knowledge and principles and present the analytical tools largely used in the business context.
Each tutorial is conceived to give students a practical application of previously studied theo-retical notions; thus, analytical tools are applied to conduct depth analyses based on case studies. A third of class time will be spent working on tutorials. Students are encouraged to prepare for tutorials in teams. Team discussions will enable each of you to better understand assignments, readings, and lectures.
A mix of theoretical lectures, tutorials, and discussions provides an interactive learning environment, allowing you to achieve a better understanding.

Type of Assessment
Course attendance is not required. However, attendance is considered a significant and serious commitment. Students are responsible for arriving on time, following the flow of classes carefully and remaining in the class until the end of session.
At the beginning of the course, students’ will be asked to decide if they want to attend classes. This will affect the examination methods.
Attending students are requested to attend at least 85% of classes and tutorials and to take part in all the three intermediary tests (see below). Attendance will be verified every day though students’ active participation in classes.
EXAMINATION METHODS FOR ATTENDING STUDENTS
At the end of each module, an intermediary test is scheduled (see the course calendar for the dates). Attending students will be required to take all the three intermediary tests. Intermediary tests could consist of multiple-choice questions and/or exercises.
At the end of the course, students who passed all the three intermediate tests won’t be required to do the final exam. They will register the average grade calculated as the arithmetic mean of the intermediate tests’ grades. Students who have failed one or more intermediary test(s), will have to take the final exam limited to the module(s) failed in the intermediary tests.

Non-attending students are required to study extra readings provided by the teacher. The final exam deals with the three modules described above and the additional readings. The final exam is a written test that can include exercise and multiple-choice or/and open questions. The test lasts 1,5 hours.
