Course Content
Starting from level B 1, development of main grammatical, terminological
and cultural tools for appropriate written and oral communication in the
fields of business and economy. Acquisition of language tools for the
understanding of descriptive and argumentative written texts at an
interme¬diate level of complexity. Knowledge of selected topics of social
and economic life, social history and institutions of German-speaking
countries, in the European context.
Course materials prepared by the teaching staff and provided during the
course change from year to year according to learning needs and actual
topics. Purchase of a good dictionary (DIT-Paravia, Sansoni, Zanichelli,
Klett, etc.) is recommended.
Learning Objectives
Expected overall learning outcomes for Modules A + B:
Starting from a solid basic language competence (European level B 1),
acquired through prior learning, the course aims at progressive
acquisition, during the modules A and B, of main grammatical,
terminological and cultural tools for communication in the foreign
language in the fields of business and economy, within a European
framework.
Knowledge: main language structures and tools of German for
understanding descriptive and argumentative texts with an intermediate
degree of complexity referring to social and economic contexts; selected
topics of social and economic life, social history and institutions of the
German-speaking countries, in the European context.
Competences: skills needed for appropriate written and oral
communication about topics in the fields of business and economy
Prerequisites
Acquired knowledge and competence equivalent to level B 1 of the
European framework for languages; specifically: solid background
concerning the main grammatical structures of German; written and oral
comprehension skills referred to authentic text with general content;
familiarity with a minimum vocabulary for interaction and communication
in non-specialist contexts.
Teaching Methods
Learning is based on a number of integrated activities including, in
variable rates, classroom teaching, seminars, group work, exercises,
thematic debates, exam tutoring, etc., approximately distributed as
follows:
Teaching activities (36 hours approximately):
Classroom teaching: 24 hours
Language laboratory: 8 hours
Seminars and Exam Training: 4 hours
Individual learning workload: no less than 1 hour for each classroom
hour.
Further information
For students attending the 6 credit course, module A is an integral part of the overall course consisting of Module A
+ B, with one final examination at the end of module B.
Type of Assessment
One final exam for both modules A and B, to be taken at the end of
Module B, includes a written and an oral examination .
Written exam (3 hours): written (reading) comprehension; writing
exercises
Oral exam: conversation in German about topics covered during the
course. The exam for 3 credits only consists of a written and an oral exercise covering the course programme.
