The main aim of the course is the introduction of statistics focusing on applications in the economic and business fields. The main measures used for data analysis, the main statistical models used for the analysis of relationships between variables and for the analysis of time series will be introduced. Finally, the main methods of constructing index numbers and composite indicators will be presented. The contents of the course will be supported by exercises carried out using Excel.

Obiettivi Formativi
The aim of the course is to provide the student with a sufficiently broad statistical theoretical-practical basis by introducing the main techniques of data analysis, especially for the analysis of socio-economic phenomena. A key role is devoted to the application of statistical tools and methods by using the Excel spreadsheet.
Prerequisiti
A basic knowledge of mathematics and linear functions is strongly recommended.
A basic knowledge of the office package.
Metodi Didattici
Lessons and exercises, partly carried out with applications on the Excel spreadsheet.
Modalità di verifica apprendimento
WRITTEN.
For attending students two intermediate tests (for the first two parts of the program) and a final written test OR a project work (for the third part). It is not possible to take only some intermediate tests.
For non-attending students an overall written final test.
Programma del corso
The course is divided into three main parts.
The first part deals with a basic knowledge of statistics and in particular, the following topics have to be introduced: design and implementation of a statistical survey; explanation of the measurement system; tools for data collection; descriptive statistics; tabular and graphic representations; frequencies; mean; median; mode; percentiles; measures of variability; box plot.
The second part of the course deals with the analysis of the association between characters and statistical relations: dependence, independence, interdependence; measurements of association for qualitative variables; correlation and regression analysis; time series; moving averages for seasonal adjustment; linear and non linear trend analysis.
Finally during the third part will be analysed topics related to: statistical ratios; elementary and synthetic index numbers; deflation of economic aggregates; composite indicators; measurement of well-being.
